He married Jeanne Harris, September 12, 1949. They had four children and five grandchildren.

Sam, or Dr. Sam, as he was known to all of his friends, practiced medicine in Kingman from 1952 until 1969. He joined the Department of State in 1969 and served as a Medical Officer for the Department of State until his retirement in 1991. He was stationed in Quinto, Ecuador; Pretoria, South Africa; New Delhi, India; Mexico City, Mexico, and Lisbon, Portugal.

When serving in the Washington, D.C. area he traveled as a medical officer and traveled most parts of the world, including the Far East, Europe, Africa and South America. Upon retirement he moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

Besides his work, his great love was gardening. Every place he lived was more beautiful because of this hobby.
