     Mar 8 1979 - Lifetime local Del Evans, 89, of Cottonwood Falls dies.


     Mar 15 - Rent for Flint Hills pastures expected to be $15 per acre.


     Mr. & Mrs Harry Whitaker of Saffordville are the parents of a daughter, Cheyann Elizabeth.


     Mar 22 - A microfilm reader was •voted on to bepurchased by the Chase County Historical Society board.


     Apr 12 - Billing Pharmacy burglary loss set at $1,000.


     Apr 26 - A Columbia Savings office will be built in Cottonwood Falls soon.


     Mr. & Mrs Ronald A. Scott, Strong City are the parents of a new baby boy, Jeffrey Neil.


     May 3 - Kieferle-Busselle Store for women in Cottonwood Falls, has been sold to Mr. & Mrs John Haglund of Strong City.


     May 17 - Saffordville's one remaining but thriving business changes hands. The North Grain Co. for more than 30 years, owned & operated by Stanley North has been sold to Mr. & Mrs Allen Canida.


     Deaths: Walter L. Link, Mrs G. H. Trussell, Russell Cahoone, Lowell Wilhite , Iva Whitlock and Edgar C. Lambert.


     Jun 7 - County population dropped 42 persons.


     Jun 14 - F. L. Grimwood retired banker is taken in death.


     Mr. & Mrs W. J. Pherigo will celebrate their golden wedding soon.


     Jun 21 - Mike Cahoone is the new Mayor of Cottonwood Falls. He succedes Richard Maresh, who resigned.


     The old ice plant on south Broadway is being torn down. It will be replaced by a small office building.


     Edlin Fink, rural Cottonwood Falls resident of Chase Co. his whole life was taken in death. He is survived by his wife, Alice Laura Messer Fink, and a son Jim.


     Jun 29 - Lee Ayers has been selected as Columbia branch manager for their local office here.


     Jul 5 - USD-284 buys Trayer building for a maintenance building.


     Jul 12 - The building at the corner of Broadway & Main in Cottonwood Falls known as the “Old Ford Garage” is torn down. It will be the site of the new Columbia Savings building.


     The old river bridge was accepted in March of 1972 but the board of county commissioners had to be shown who owned it.


     Sheri Buffington & Robert C. DeWitt are married.


     Jul 26 - Longtime local merchant John R. Busselle passes away.


     Aug 9 - Retired mail carrier, Lee K. Graham of Clements dies; also, Marjorie Sager.


     Aug 16 - Ken Roberts of Strong City into hall of champions in Colorado Springs, Colorado.


     Aug 30 - Lifetime resident J. M. (Jack) Pendergraft of Cottonwood Falls, a retired farmer & rancher is taken in death.


     There are 618 students attending classes at Chase County USD-284 attendance centers.
