     1982 - 1983

     May 20 1982 - A new cement dance platform has recently been poured on the Flint Hills Rodeo grounds.

     May 27 - Jack and Susan Alexander and family have jointed Race & Marilyn Bennett in the operation of Brown-Bennett Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls.

     Jun 3 - The Chase County Jaycees have whitewashed the rocks making up the Strong City sign on the water tower hill.

     Dr. Curtis G. Baltz recently began practicing dentistry in both Cottonwood Falls & Council Grove. He purchased the practice from Dr. Edward H. Siems.

     Mrs Florence Dawson was taken in death.

     Jun 10 - Lois Wheat, sixth grade teacher at Strong City Grade School retires after 36 years of teaching.

     Jun 17 - Rich Potter donates lots of hours to baseball kids plus holding down his job at the Strong City water plant.

     Jul 1 - Mark Kline and wife Berit and his bluegrass band, Breakaway from Copenhagen, Denmark are in Chase County visiting. The band has engagements in the USA this summer.

     Jul 15 - Deaths: Bruce A. Swift, Joseph F. Wittker, and Fred J. Wilcox. Tammy L. Kent and Everett L. Swift are wed.

     Mr. & Mrs L. M. Welch of Saffordville celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

     Aug 5 - Deaths: Mrs Gus Carpenter and Rev. Paul Haglund.

     Aug 26 - Deaths: Ernest Triemer, Ernest Carpenter, and Thelma Boles.

     Jeanne Lee Stantion & Clayton Childs are wed.

     Sep 2 - The spur from Strong City to Cottonwood Falls is on the agenda to consider proposed rail line abandonment.

     Sep 30 - The Emma Chase Cafe in Cottonwood Falls was opened for business.

     Deaths: Mildred L. Speer, Sophia Stenzel, Isabel Smith and John “Dido" Banks.

     Nov 4 - Leigh Ann Maddox and Amos L. Swigert are wed at the Saffordville Methodist church.

     Nov 18 - The new 4-H Livestock Building at Swope Park is being built by volunteer help.

     Dec 2 - Work began on the area north of the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls for the new drive-thru with canopy.

     Tonya Kim Park & David Lee Kennedy are united in marriage.

     Dec 16 - Mr. & Mrs Keith V. Davis of Elmdale celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary.

     Dec 30 - Chase County got its first taste of winter with its first snow.

     Deaths: Maggie M. Moore, Margaret A. Byram, Paul John Koegeboehn and Henry R. ImMasche.

     Jan 6 1983 - A new daughter, Katherine Opal, born to Mr. & Mrs Gerald Ingalls of Strong City.

     Mr. & Mrs Phil Pinkston hosted a New Year’s Party for the members of the Social Circle Club.
