  To the prudent and economical housekeeper, no question arises of more importance than the knowledge of where to buy her table necessities and household wants the cheapest and best, and it seems from the large patronage given W. C. Yates that he is deciding that question in the minds of many households in Baxter Springs and vicinity. Located at 1015 Military Avenue and carrying a heavy stock of pure food groceries and fresh and cured meats of every kind and description, this store is numbered among the leaders in its line in the county. It is equipped with modern fixtures, the large stock is neatly displayed and the establishment presents an attractive appearance on all occasions. Starting in business here about two years ago and adhering to straightforward methods and square dealing with all mankind, Mr. Yates has gained the confidence of the buying public by deserving it. Goods are delivered on short notice to any part of the city and the same careful attention is paid to phone orders as those given in person. Mr. Yates is one of the real live wires in the commercial circles of the town and is doing his full share toward the development of the community in which he is operating.


  In a detailed review of Baxter Springs, including comment upon her institutions worthy of mention, there are none more appropriate for special consideration or affording more universal interest to all classes of people than her hotels, and few words concerning the Empire Hotel cannot but interest many of the readers of this publication. It is a modern, two-story brick structure, conveniently located at the corner of Park Avenue and 12th Street, and contains 35 spacious, well-furnished and desirable guest rooms, many of which are equipped with hot and cold running water and other conveniences. For the accommodation of commercial men, the management has provided first-class sample rooms which are at the disposal of those who sell goods from samples. The house is operated on the European plan, with rates of $1.00 per day and up. These rates are very reasonable, considering the excellence of the service and accommodations afforded. This is one of the leading hotels of the city and many of the leading commercial travelers who visit Baxter Springs make The Empire their headquarters. W. Sidden is proprietor. He is a gentleman of courteous bearing and progressive ideas; has had a broad experience in the hotel business and has many friends among both the local and traveling public.


  Galena is a wide-awake little city, located in the Southeastern part of Cherokee County, within a short distance of the Missouri state line.
