Morning Star Cemetery

NW Corner of NW 1/4 of Section 16 Township 14 Range 27

From Quinter this cemetery is about 15 miles south of I-70 and 5 miles west, on the east side of the road. Indian Creek, later known as Morning Star, was one of the mission points of the Quinter Brethren Church. The last funeral Bertha Daniels can remember going to at Morning Star was for the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Fortiner. The baby was buried west of any stones in the cemetery. It wasn't very long after that until the church was sold. Tom Werth (NE 1/4 of 8-12-27) moved it to his farm and made a home out of it.

This information was gathered and filed in the Gove County Register of Deeds Office in 1986. At that time, Betty (Mrs. Larry) Jacobs cared for the cemetery and kept it mowed.
