BRYANT, COPENHAVER posted by Donna Copenhaver Bronner on Tuesday, September 5, 2000

I'm searching for information on my grandparents and great aunts/uncles--long time residents of Leavenworth. I'd like to know more about their parents and siblings. Obits, birth, death, marriage, military records, land records would be of interest. Here's what I know.

George Copenhaver:
DOB: Feb. 11, 1876 (he MAY have been born in Leavenworth)
DOD: Jan. 6, 1964 in Leavenworth, KS
Married: Cora Bryant, Nov. 24, 1908 in Leavenworth, KS (Block 0, pg. 91, #15180). I have this certificate.
Children: Frederick Bryant Copenhaver, born Nov. 7, 1913, Leavenworth, KS. Some time after Fred's birth, a set of twins was stillborn. I know nothing more about them.

Lived at 708 Kickapoo for many years. George Copenhaver owned a cigar store around WWI.

Parents of George: Fred (Frederick?) and Susan Copenhaver (maybe Koppenhaffer or Kopenhaver)

Siblings of George: Fred (?), William (?), John, Bertha, Louise. As far as I know, only George married. Bertha & Louise Copenhaver died in Leavenworth, and I think one or more of the brothers may have. They lived at 733 Kickapoo Street. Louise attended a Lutheran church at the time of her death but they did not perform her funeral service. All of the Copenhavers are buried at Mt. Muncie Cemetary.

George and his siblings spoke English/German. Bertha still had an accent when she died.

Cora Bryant Copenhaver:
DOB: Sept. 5, 1883
DOD: April, 1975
Parents: Thomas (DOD: Aug, 1936-July 9, 1912 and Mary E. (June, 1842-Oct.1930) Bryant.
Siblings: Laura, Walter, Charles, Mary, Anna (Cline), Wallace

Can anyone help me out with any of this, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks, Donna Copenhaver Bronner

COATES, FOLEY, HOLDEN, MILLER, OGDEN, WELSH, YOUNG posted by Virgil D. Miller on Thursday, September 14, 2000

I am researching Major Edmund A. Ogden and families connected to him.

In spring of 1855 Major Edmund A. Ogden, then QuarterMaster, Ft Leavenworth bound for Ft Riley with 55 Wagons of Material to construct buildings there. In Aug 1855 Died from Cholera. A story printed in either the Kansas Register or the Kansas Weekly (Microfilm Reel 11 (L-2891 or L-834)

The article says, "From our Extra of Sunday Evening Leavenworth City, K.T., Sunday Evening, August 5. "the first line in the first paragraph says "Mr Panton of this city, hearing of the news of the illness of Maj. Ogden (his brother-in-law) left here at six o'clock Saturday evening " (I assume to go to Ft Riley to check on Major Ogden)

I would like to get someone to check city directories for the 1855 Census for Leavenworth County for all information pertaining to Mr. Panton and family and any family with the names of Ogden that may be living there at that time. I also would like to obtain a photocopy of the story printed in applicable paper.

A copy of "Four Centuries in Kansas" by Bliss Isley and W.M. Richards, published by The State of Kansas, copyright 1944 (rev. from 1936 edition), just came into my posession. It's an elementary school textbook, so covers a myriad of topics, but mentions several prominent and pioneer citizens. I'd be glad to do lookups regarding SPECIFIC individuals. DANA posted by Diane Diamond on Tuesday, September 26, 2000

I believe Percy F. Dana was born in 1865 in Stranger Creek, Leavenworth County, KS. His brother, Parsons, was said to be the first white child to be born in Parsons, but I do not have a birth or death date for him. Both eventually moved to SF, CA. They owned the Dana Studio, which specialized in boxing photos. I would like to confirm the birth date and place for Percy, and find a birth date for Parsons. Their father, Winthrop (William) Dana was b. 1832 in Wentworth NH and died at the Old Soldier's Home in Leavenworth. He fought for the Union in the Civil War. I would like a birth date for him and a spouse name. There were three other children in the family. Frances (Fannie), Ross, and William. Any information on any of these Dana's would be greatly appreciated.
